Healing from Heartbreak: How I support clients in my practice

April 20, 2025

Heartbreak is deeply personal and stems from a myriad of sources: the ending of a relationship, betrayal, unmet expectations, a sudden shift in your life story, or the slow unraveling of something you once believed was permanent. It’s not just an emotional experience—it’s physical, spiritual, and identity-shaking. In my therapy practice, I hold space for the full spectrum of heartbreak, knowing it touches every layer of who we are.

The Power of Your Story

When you’re heartbroken, your story can feel heavy—full of confusion, shame, or unanswered questions. In therapy, one of the most powerful things we can do is simply begin to speak that story out loud. To have someone truly listen, without judgment or agenda, is often the first step in unburdening the weight of what you’ve been carrying.

As we sift through the details together, we begin to notice patterns, turning points, and hidden truths. The process of reflection creates space—not just to grieve what was lost, but to reclaim your voice and understand your experience in a new way. Over time, your story shifts from something that happened to you into something that lives within you—full of wisdom, resilience, and deeper meaning.

Personalized Tools for Emotional Recovery

I write personalized programs to help remedy emotional hard times. These often include a mix of talk therapy, mindfulness practices, body-based techniques, and reflective work like journaling or letter writing. I also draw from evidence-based models like Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and somatic approaches to help you reconnect with your inner resilience.

Integration through Mind-Body Work

As a certified yoga teacher and health coach, I also offer support beyond traditional therapy. We might explore gentle breathwork, grounding exercises, or restorative poses that help you release tension and come back to yourself. When appropriate, I integrate holistic methods to help you move from simply surviving to feeling grounded and empowered again.

A Trauma Informed Approach

I work from a trauma-informed lens, paying attention to how grief and loss are stored in the body. We talk about the ache in your chest, the restlessness at night, the anxiety that flares in your stomach, and the ways your nervous system tries to protect you from further harm.

Together, we learn to notice those responses with curiosity and compassion.

There’s No Rush- Just a Way Forward

Heartbreak doesn’t move on a timeline. My goal isn’t to push you to “get over it” but to support you as you find your way through it. Together, we build a safe space for your healing—one where you can feel, process, and eventually begin to imagine what’s next.
